Abstract

Electromagnetic switches. -An electromagnetic switch has two energizing coils 5, 4 and a pole-piece 7 projecting at an intermediate point on the core 3 between the said coils. The end 11 of the pole-piece is bent and is arranged in spaced parallel relation to a similar part 12 on an end pole-piece 10, the tail 9 of a pivoted armature 6 being movable in the air-gap thus formed. An adjusting screw 22 and biassing spring 20 are provided for the armature which is adapted to be attracted by the other end pole 13 of the core 3, contacts 24, 26 being fitted to the fixed and moving parts as desired. If both windings, energize the core in the same way, the pole 7 exerts an attraction proportionate to the difference in their fluxes, while the poles 10, 13 exert a counter-attraction on the armature proportionate to the sum of the fluxes. When the windings are in opposition the attraction of the pole 7 is proportional to the sum, and that of the poles 10, 13 to the difference of the, fluxes. The windings may be energized in a variety of ways to operate the switch according to fluctuations or reversals of current or potential.
