Abstract
491,085. Thermal switches. CHESTER, L. R. Feb. 25, 1937, No. 5688. [Class 38 (v)] [Also in Groups XXXV and VI] A thermostatic switch for a hair dryer comprises a bimetallic element secured at one end to a tubular support and at the other to a spindle carrying an arm 11 on which a contact 12 co-operating with a fixed contact 13 is mounted through a spring 12a. A permanent magnet 14 is arranged to attract an armature carried on the arm 11 and maintains the heater circuit of the hair dryer closed as the temperature falls until the element moves the arm 11 to impose a sufficient strain on the spring carrying contact 12 to separate contacts 12, 13. The setting of the switch can be altered by a handle connected through a crank 17 to the tubular support.
