Abstract

630,441. Thermal switches. BOLTE, L. R Oct. 7, 1946, No. 29938. [Class 38(v)] The body 11 of an electric iron has a cavity 18 containing a heater 19 and V- shaped bimetal element 21 pivoted at 20 on the underside of a cover plate 30 and connected to one terminal of the heater. The cover 30 pivotally supports at 28 an insulaing lever 27 pivoted to the free end 26 of the bimetal 21 and carries a temperature scale 34 over which a pointer 33 attached to the pivot 28 moves. An arcuate contact 35 connected to a terminal 16 is adjustable relative to the free end 26, with which it co-operates, by an arm 35a having a part 41 extending through a slot 40 in the cover, the arm 35a also having an extension engaging the pivot 28. In use, the part 41 is set to the required temperature on the scale 34 whereby the circuit is closed through the heater 19 until the free end 26 of the bimetal moves beyond the end of contact 35, the bimetal then cools to reclose the circuit by reverse movement of the free end.
