Class 38(5) The sole plate 1 of an iron is made of aluminium or alloy and carries at 23 a rod 2 of a low-expansion metal. The free end of rod 2 is connected over a spring 4 and insulating buttons 6 with a bowed spring 7 carrying contacts 8 co-operating with fixed contacts 24 so that relative expansion of plate 1 and rod 2 causes contact operation. The temperature of operation is adjustable by a toothed thumb piece 19 engaging teeth on a member 18 clamped to the rod, rotation of the rod causing its axial movement.
