Abstract
566,625. Thermal switches. COLLINS, G. H., and COLLINS, H. F. March 11, 1943, No. 14641/44. Divided out of 566,599. [Class 38 (v)] A thermal cut-out in an electric iron comprises a pair of strips 30, 31 urged resiliently towards one another, whereby contacts at their free ends are held in engagement and yet adjustable bodily for the different operations to be performed by the iron. The strips are insulatingly carried by a metal housing 23 secured to the sole plate, and the upper strip 30 is adapted to be raised by an adjustable member 22 on a bimetal strip 15 attached to the sole plate as described in Specification 566,624, [Group XI]. A setting spindle 35, rotatable in casing 23, carries a face cam 4 co-operating with a lug 43 on one limb 41 of a stirrup-shaped lever 40 pivoted to casing 23 at 42. The limbs 41 are interconnected by a pin 45 surrounded by a glass tube 46 bearing on the upper face of the lower strip 31 so that the contacts can be bodily moved, without opening the circuit, by rotation of an indicator knob on spindle 35. The heating element is arranged as in Specification 566,599.
