Abstract
487,827. Thermal switches. STAN. DARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Feb. 18, 1938, No. 5174. Convention date, March 4, 1937. [Class 38 (v)] [Also in Groups XIII and XXXV] A bimetallic strip 20, of brass and a nickelsteel alloy of substantially zero coefficient of expansion, is mounted in a slightly shorter hook-ended support 15 of similar alloy with zero coefficient. In the application to a thermal switch for regulating temperature in a quartz crystal oscillator housing, an adjustable insulated contact screw 21 is engaged by the strip 20 to complete the circuit of a heater 25 mounted on a metal plate 12 adjacent to the strip. The opposite side of the plate 12 carries electrodes 37, 38, which, with an intermediate quartz crystal plate 39, are held by a spring 40 against the plate 12. The switch and heater are connected in series to two plugs 35, 50, and the crystal electrodes to the plug 50 and another plug 52. The plugs are mounted in an insulating base 10 secured to the casing 55.
