Abstract

542,892. Thermal switches. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Feb. 10, 1941, No. 1735. Convention date, Feb. 8, 1940. [Class 38 (v)] [Also in Group XIII] A thermostaticallycontrolled switch includes a temperature-responsive bimetal strip 32, lying adjacent to a spring switch arm 31, having one end loosely mounted in a slot 33 on a support 20 for the arm 31, the other end loosely connected to the spring arm, as by a hole fitting over a stud 36 on the arm 31. The bimetal strip is thus relieved of any strain due to mounting. Under heat the strip bows, an insulating bushing 41 mounted in the centre abuts against an adjustable stop 40 and further bowing separates the contacts 14, 28. Two adjustments for the stop 40 are provided, one for setting the operating temperature comprising a screwed bush 42 moved by a handle 45, and another for exact factory setting comprising a screwed rod 39 bearing the stop 40 in its lower end. Heat is conveyed to the casing through an aluminium &c. drop plate 58 flanged downward from a covering to the housing 10.
