Abstract
986,131. Fluid actuation of switches. GRAVINER MANUFACTURING CO. Ltd., and WILKINSON SWORD Ltd. Aug. 1, 1961 [Aug. 16, 1960], No. 28270/60. Heading H2B. A pressure responsive device is compensated for differential thermal expansion of its supporting members by means of a bi-metallic disc 15. The device comprises two electrical contacts 8, 14, whose separation is dependent upon the pressure on a diaphragm 4, and a bimetal disc 15 which opposes any variation in the separation of the contacts 8, 14 due to differential thermal expansion. The contacts 14, 8 are mounted respectively on the bi-metal disc 15 and on a stand off insulator 6 on the corrugated metal diaphragm 4 and their separation is adjustable by rotating a screw-threaded member 18. The bi-metal disc 15 is clamped to a recessed support 16; its effective area and therefore the degree of compensation applied is governed by the area of the recess in the support 16 which is adjusted while first setting up the switch to obtain a near constant contact separation over the desired range of temperature.
