Abstract

1,077,825. Fluid actuation of switches; thermal switches. TEXAS INSTRUMENTS Inc. Sept. 22, 1964 [Oct. 18, 1963], No. 38630/64. Heading H2B. A snap-acting diaphragm 20 is welded or otherwise sealed to two casing members 12, 14, the member 12 having a port 30 for the admission of pressure fluid. The port contains a spring 38 acting on the diaphragm so as to reduce the value of pressure at which the diaphragm responds, the upper end of the spring bearing on an abutment 36 which may be a split cylinder frictionally held in the port until adjusted to a desired position when it is welded in place. Other means of fixing an abutment are mentioned. The diaphragm acts through a plunger 140 on a device 100, as shown an hermetically-sealed switch having a fixed contact 114 and a spring blade 116 carrying a contact 120. The diaphragm may be of bimetallic or other thermally-responsive composite material.
