Abstract
1,028,252. Fluid actuation of switches. CUSTOM COMPONENT SWITCHES Inc. March 9, 1964, No. 9918/64. Heading H2B. A fluid-pressure operated electrical switch device comprises a diaphragm 24, Fig. 3, sealed against an end wall 3 of a housing and against a gasket 25 disposed in a groove 26 in the end wall, a wall 27 which clamps the diaphragm in position, a plunger 37 projecting through an aperture in the wall 27 and engaging the diaphragm, a pressure-plate 43 resting on the wall 27 and carrying a rib 44 of hardened material, a snap-action Belleville spring 59 which is engaged by the rib 44, and a second plunger 62 carried by the Belleville spring, which actuates the button P of a switch SS. A compression spring 30, the force of which can be adjusted by screwthreaded member 32 acts against the diaphragm to supplement the fluid pressure, and the magnitude of fluid pressure which will cause snap-action of the Belleville spring is adjusted by a screw-threaded member 47 which, through a ring 57 engages the Belleville spring. The switch SS is carried in a member 14 which is screwed into the body to provide axial adjustment of the switch relative to the actuating member 62. A second embodiment, Fig. 7 (not shown), is generally similar to the first embodiment except that a compression spring 99, the force of which can be adjusted by screw-threaded member 124, opposes the fluid pressure and that the switch SS is actuated through rods 127 which engage the Belleville spring 116, project through holes 126 in member 124 and carry an operating plate 128.
