Abstract
402,373. Thermal switches. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London.-(Assignees of Getchell, B. E. ; Plainville, Connecticut, U.S.A.) Aug. 8, 1933, No. 22184. Convention date, Aug. 6, 1932. [Class 38 (v).] A thermal switch comprises a bimetallic strip 8 fixed by screws 9 to a base 7 and provided with an adjusting screw 10. A contact arm 12 has a hooked end 13 which has pivoted engagement with a slot in the strip 8. A compression spring 16 encircles the contact arm and is mounted between the end of the strip 8 and a shoulder on the contact arm. When the strip 8 bends due to a change of temperature, the contact arm snaps rapidly to engage one or other of the stops 18, 19 either or both of which may be contacts. A hooked plate 11 limits the movement of the strip 8. In a modification the strip is bowed at its upper end and passes through a hole in the base and is fastened on the rear side.
