Abstract

651,740. Thermal switches. BREVETS ET PROCEDES PYROR SOC. ANON. Feb. 20, 1948, No. 5068. Convention date, Feb. 21,1947. [Class 38(v)] In a thermal switch having a bimetallic element actuating a tilting mercury switch, adjustment is obtained by displacing angularly the support on which the element and mercury switch are carried. The mercury switch 4 is carried by a support 7, which is pivoted at 8 on a supporting member 9. The bimetallic element 11 is mounted on the member 9 and has a heating element 13 and a part 11<SP>1</SP> abutting the support 7. When the bimetallic element is heated, it tilts the support 7 to actuate the mercury switch. The supporting member 9 is pivoted at 10 and is displaced angularly by means of a cam 14 which is turned by means of a knob 16 with scale 17. It is stated that the sensitivity of the switch is greater at one end of its range when the heating element 13 is connected in series with the circuit to be controlled, and at the other end of its range when the element 13 is connected in parallel to the circuit to be controlled.
