comme représenté à la fig.1. Le réglage correspondant à la. courbe B est, par contre, obtenu en branchant la résistance du bilame en série avec la résistance 2. Dans ce dernier cas,, la valeur de la résistance du bilame est, bien entendu;
Thermostatic regulator for electrical appliance. The present invention relates to: a subject of a thermestatic regulator for an electrical appliance,
regulator in which the deformations of a thermostatic element are used to actuate an electrical switch for controlling a circuit of said electrical appliance.
This regulator is characterized in that said switch switch is mounted on an oscillating member, itself mounted on a support also oscillating, in that the movement of the oscillating member is controlled by the deformations,
of the thermostatic element and in that the angular position of the oscillating support can be adjusted using a hand control,
the whole being arranged in such a way that the manual adjustment of the oscillating support makes it possible to vary the duration of the time intervals between the successive closings and openings of said switch.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the regulator according to the invention.
Fiig. 1 is a schematic elevation view of this embodiment, and fib. 2 shows a diagram illustrating two different settings of the heating power of the appliance.
The purpose of the regulator which is the subject of the invention is to regulate a heating power (of an electric heating body, for example) by successive cuts of:
current, the alternating times of cut-off and on being determined automatically by the deformations of a thermostatic element such as a bimetallic strip, for example, the winding of which is inserted in the controlled circuit.
1 designates a general manually operated switch, inserted between a current supply terminal D, from the network, for example, and the heating body of a user appliance represented by an electric resistance 2 .
In the regulator shown, in general, at 3, is provided. a mercury switch 4, the electrodes 5 and 6 of which are respectively connected to terminal E of the network and to the heating resistor 2.
This switch 4 is mounted on a member 7 for swinging around an axis 8 integral with a support 9 which can also oscillate about an axis 10 fixed to the frame of the regulator 3.
The oscillating member 7 is controlled by the deformations of a bimetallic strip Il , one end of which is fixed to a bracket 12. Integral with the support 9, the other movable end acting, by the 'intermediate:
of a part 11 'which is attached to said oscillating member 7. 13. designates the heating resistance of the bimetallic strip 11 connected in parallel to the resistance 2 die 1'arp- pareil of use. This resistor 13 could be replaced by a smaller one, and be connected in series, which would modify the setting of the intensity & heating,
as will be described later. The oscillating support 9 rests on a cam 14 fixed to a shaft 15 on which is, wedged a manual control lever 16 having a graduation 17 which moves in front of a frozen mark not shown.
The operation of the regulator described is as follows: Assuming switch 1 closed, the current flows for example from D to E in step through the heating resistor 2, the resistor 13 of the bimetallic strip 11 and the mercury connecting the electrodes 5 and 6.
The mobile end of the bimetallic strip 11 moves under the effect of the heat and causes the organ to oscillate (resting on the part 11. The sea cure of the switch 4 moves and the current is interrupted at a certain level. moment between the two electrodes, 5 and 6.
To get more or less action. bimetallic strip on switch 4, the initial or rest position of the oscillating support 9 can be modified by acting on the camp 14 by means of the lever 16.
In the adjustment carried out by the regulator described (expressed in% of the heating power), a relation directly proportional to the angular displacements of the adjustment knob 16 is not necessarily obtained.
In fact, the heating power, in addition to depending on the type of connection of the resistor 13, is also a function of the shape of the cam 14.
In the diagram represented in fig. 2, the ordinates correspond to% of the heating power and the abscissas; to the angular displacements of the adjustment lever 16 ..
Curve A shows, for example, that the heating of the user apparatus increases slowly at the start and more rapidly towards the end of the angular displacement of the net ma 16. The adjustment margin is therefore more extended at low speeds. , which is important in the case where the style of the fireplace must be that corresponding to the simmering of a dish, for example.
This advantage becomes, on the contrary, a disadvantage if the appearance of the hearth is to be that of an oven. In this case, the shape of the -curve must be analogous to that B (fig. 2), that is to say that the adjustment margin must be the widest at the upper part of the curve.
The point @ of intersection @ ection C of the curves A -and B corresponds (> nrd to 100% of the heating power, To obtain the setting corresponding to curve A, we connect the heating resistor 13 of the bimetallic strip 11 in parallel with the resistor 2 of the device of use,
as shown in fig. 1. The setting corresponding to the. curve B is, on the other hand, obtained by connecting the resistance of the bimetallic strip in series with resistance 2. In this last case, the value of the resistance of the bimetal is, of course;
smaller than in the case of parallel connection 'and the current crossing resistance 2 being stronger, the heating power will increase more rapidly for the of bimetal connection in series than for the connection in parallel.
Instead of a mercury switch as described., One could provide any other electrical switch to control a circuit of the apparatus.
On the other hand, the thermostatic element of the described regulator could be constituted by a solid, a liquid or a. gas and present a linear or cubic expansion ,. The heating resistor could be provided either around this element, or adjacent to it,
or still inside said element. One could even provide a thermostatic element itself serving as resistance.
