Thermostatic regulator for electrical appliance. The present invention relates to a re- 0.
thermostatic ulator for electric appliance, - trric, regulator in which the deformations of a thermostatic element are used For a # CtiOnR'eT at least, an electric switch intended for. to control a cir4rait of said device.
This regulator is characterized in that said. switch is mounted on a sliding member whose movement is # controlled by the de-formations of the thermostatic element by means of a flexible link whose active length is adjustable in order to vary the temperature. : duration of the time intervals between the successive closings and openings of said switch.
The accompanying drawing shows, to an example, one embodiment of the regulator -according to the invention.
Fig. 1 is a united schematic view of this embodiment, #et fi, g. 2 shows a diagram illustrating two settings of the heating power of the user apparatus.
The regulator forming the subject of the invention has for its purpose is to regulate a heating power, g (I (of a body, of electric heating, for example) by successive cut-offs current, the alternating cut-off and on-time times being determined automatically by the deformations of a thermostatic element such as a bimetallic strip, for example, the winding of which is inserted in the controlled -circuit. 1 de- sign a general switch with manual control,
inserted between a terminal D of current supply from the network, for example, and the heating body of a user appliance represented by an electric resistance 2.
The regulator 3 itself comprises a switch 4 to me-ror, of which the electrodes 5 and 6 are connected respectively to the terminal E of the network and to the heating resistor 2, This switch 4 is mounted on a support 7 able to oscillate around an axis 8 fixed, with respect to the frame of the regulator 3. A spring 9 tightens < B> to keep support 7 in its normal position corresponding to the closing of switch 4.
The movement of the suppurt 7 is controlled by the deformation of a bimetallic strip, 10 via a flexible link 11 of which the active length is adjustable. One end of this link 11 is fixed to the swinging support 7 and the other end to a rotating member, if 12, for example, a drum or rod, on which it can wind or unwind to modify its active length.,
the intermediate part of this link passing over a pulley 13 integral with the mobile end of the bimetallic strip 10. The flexible link 11 could also slide in a groove of a fixed member secured to the movable end of the bimetallic strip 10. The other end of the bimetallic strip 10 is fixed to a base 14 integral with the frame of the regulator 3. The rotary member 12 is controlled manually to Faide of a handle 15 having a graduation 16 </ B> moving in front of a fixed index 17 -reference.
Conversely, the index could be mobile, e ', e8t-to-say integral with the organ 12, and the graduation fixed. In the regulator described, the resistance, of chwaffa ,, ge 10 ' of the bil-ame is connected in parallel; on the resistance, of heating, 2 of the user. This resistor could be replaced by a smaller one - and be connected in series with resistor 2, which would change the intensity setting of., Heating, as it will be. described further, away.
The resistor could also be placed along the bimetallic strip, de in such a way that it heats the latter by radiation or convection.
The operation of the regulator described is as follows: In assuming the switch 1 closed, the current flows for example from D to E passing through through the, resistance of rhaufïa., O \ - 2 and resistance 10 ' of the bimetallic strip, 10 and the sea cure connecting the electrodes to and 6. The mobile end of the bimetallic strip 10 moves under the effect of heat and, through the pulley 13, exierces a traction on the link II. This traction acting against the.
spring force 9 causes the support to oscillate, 7, thus causing at a certain moment the rupture of the contact of the mercury with the electrodes, 5 and 6 and, consequently, the interruption of the current.
If we want to obtain a rapid action of the billa.1ne on the oscillating support lie 7, we will wind the link 11 around the Forgane 12 by means of the lever < B> 15. way to modify the rest position of the support 7. The deformations of the bimetal 10 will then require. a shorter time to act on the oscillating support 7 of switch 4.
On the contrary, -if you un- roll up the link Il by turning the lever there -in the opposite direction, the first few deformations of the bimetallic strip 10 will be used first of all, to stretch the link 11 and will therefore take a certain time to act on support 7.
We could, moreover, have recourse to any other mechanical means to produce a variation in the tension of the flexible link 11 by operating the lever there. < / B>
It will be noted that in the adjustment carried out by the regulator -described (expressed in % of the heating power) we do not obtain -a relation -directly proportional to the de- < / B> angular placements of the adjustment lever there.
In the diagram shown in fig. 2, the organs correspond to % of the power of chatuffa4, -, e -et, the, abscissa to, augoulaires movements of the adjustment lever 15 .
Curve A shows, for example, that the heating of the user apparatus increases slowly, at the beginning and more rapidly towards the end of the angular displacement of the. my clear there. The adjustment margin is therefore more extended at low speeds, which is important in the case where the style of the hearth must be corresponding, to the simmering, of a dish, for example. This advantage becomes, on the contrary, a disadvantage if the appearance of the hearth is to be that of an oven. In this case, the shape of the curve must be similar to that B (fig. 2), that is to say that the adjustment margin - must be more extensive at the. upper part of the curve.
The intersection point C of curves A and B corresponds to 100% of the heating power. To obtain the setting corresponding to to curve A, we connect the heating resistance 10 ' of the bil- core 10 in parallel with the resistor 2 of, the apparatus 4, as shown in fig. 1. On the other hand, the setting represented by curve B is obtained by connecting it. resistance of bimetal in series with resistor 2.
The value of the resistance of the bimetal must be, of course, smaller in this case, than in, -which the: bimetallic strip is connected in parallel, -and the current passing through the heating body, being stronger, the power, - heating will increase faster for the connection of the bimetallic strip in series than for that in parallel.
Instead of a mercury switch like iderit, one could provide any other electrical switch to control a circuit of the apparatus.
On the other hand, the thermostatic element of the described regulator could be constituted by a solid, a liquid or a gas and have a linear or cubic expansion. The heating resistor could be provided either around this element, or adjacent to the latter, or even inside said element. One could even provide a thermostatic element itself serving as a resistance.
