Device for automatic temperature control The present invention relates to a device for temperature control, capable of automatically adjusting the quantity of heat supplied to a fluid whose temperature must be kept constant.
In devices of this type, a valve is generally used to regulate the flow rate of the heating fluid, or else a series of contactors, controlled successively, for connecting electric heating resistors. Most of the time, the valve or contactors are controlled by a reversible electric motor, the start of which, in one direction or the other, is controlled by a thermostat located in the enclosure or in the body. the temperature must be kept constant.
However, in devices of known type, the motor controlled by the thermostat remains in operation as long as the temperature of the enclosure deviates from the value established, and, consequently, to cause delay between the movement of the regulating valve and the temperature variation in the chamber, the motor continues to turning in one direction longer than necessary, before being stopped by the adjustment thermostat. It follows that the temperature of the enclosure exceeds the desired value, 'and the thermostat starts the motor in the opposite direction of rotation.
The phenomena are repeated in the opposite direction, so that the temperature of the enclosure oscillates excessively between values located above and below the desired value.
The object of the present invention is to overcome this drawback and to provide a device for the automatic adjustment of the temperature which makes it possible to practically eliminate any fluctuation between the operation of the thermostats and that of the means of heat adjustment.
This device, comprising an electric thermostat, the heat-sensitive member of which is immersed in a fluid whose temperature must be regulated, said thermostat actuating a contactor to control remotely a reversible main motor controlling the position of the heat adjustment means, is characterized in that said contactor comprises a flexible pivoting member carrying a movable contact between two fixed contacts, said flexible member being held flexed by means of a conducting wire stretched between appendages fixed in the vicinity of each end of said flexible member and electrically isolated from this member at least at one of its ends and by the fact that it comprises means for varying the length of the wire,
so as to modify the value of the temperature for which said thermostat actuates said contactor. Thanks to this arrangement, the flexible blade of the contactor is influenced on the one hand by the thermostat member sensitive to the heat of the fluid whose temperature must be regulated and on the other hand by the length of the wire stretched between its ends and which causes a variation of its curvature.
In one embodiment of the device forming the subject of the invention, the variations in the length of the wire stretched between the ends of the flexible blade of the contactor can be obtained by heating this wire by an electric current of which the Intensity varies according to the different positions occupied by the means for adjusting the heat supplied to the fluid.
The appended drawing represents, to by way of example, an embodiment of the device according to the invention.
Fig. 1 shows schematically the construction of the thermostat of the device ; in fig. 2 schematically shows the mechanism slaved at the same time to the reversible main motor and to the reversible auxiliary motor ; and FIG. 3 is the diagram of the electrical connections.
In the drawing the same elements have been indicated by the same reference numbers in each figure.
Referring to to the fi. 1, we see that the thermostat contactor includes a flexible blade 1, which carries to one of its ends a contact 2 intended to cooperate with a pair of fixed contacts 3 and 4, mounted on the support 5 </ B > the contactor.
The flexible blade 1 is furthermore fixed to the support 5 by means of a pivot 6, at a point of its end which is opposite < B> to the one carrying the contact 2 and which engages in an adjustment device 7. The latter, which is integral with the sensitive member to </ B > the heat 8 of the thermostat, is used to adjust, by means of a screw, the value of the temperature for which the thermostat must activate the contactor. The flexible blade 1 is kept slightly bent by a conducting wire 9, stretched between two appendages 10 and 11, attached to each end of the blade 1, perpendicular to its surface. The wire 9 is electrically insulated from the blade 1 at least at one of its ends.
The curvature of the blade 1 depends on the length of the wire 9, and therefore if the length of this wire varies, the curvature of the blade 1 < / B> also varies, and this variation in curvature could correspond to a bending or to a straightening of the blade 1, such as this- ci closes or opens the contactor contacts independently of the action exerted by the thermal unit 8 of the thermostat. In the example described, the wire 9 is traversed by an electric current. The variations in this current produce variations in the temperature of the wire and therefore variations in its length, which in turn cause variations in the curvature of the blade 1 and, consequently, the opening or closing of the contactor contacts.
Figs. 2 and 3 show how the variation of the heating current flowing through the wire 9, by causing the variation of the length of this wire, can cause the variation of the position of the the heat regulating valve. This result is obtained by means of a reversible motor 28 (fig. 3), and an arm 12, to a end of which is mounted a brush 19 sliding on a resistance 13. Via an articulated mechanism, the reversible motor 28 is connected to the valve 29, which regulates the admission of heat into the enclosure.
The valve 29 is controlled by means of a cam 14, mounted on the shaft 15 of the engine 28 (fig. 2 ), and which raises and lowers a rod 16 slurry sant in guides 31. The rod 16 activates to in turn an intermediate lever 17, connecting the rod 16 to the arm 12, which moves on the resistance 13.
The stroke of the arm 12 on the resistance 13 can be modified by adjusting the ratio of the lengths of the arm of the lever which connects the arm 12 to the rod 16, < / B> i.e. by adjusting the position of the pivot 18 on which the lever 17. turns
When the temperature of the ash chamber below the desired value, the thermal unit 8 (fig. 1) of the thermostat activates, via the adjustment device 7, the flexible blade 1 of the contactor, which closes contacts 2-4, activating the reversible motor 28 in a direction of rotation such that it opens the adjustment valve 29 (fig. 2).
At the same time, the motor 29, through the intermediary of the cam 14, the rod 16, of the lever 17 and the arm 12 causes the brush 19 to move on resistor 13 so as to increase the heating current passing through wire 9. The latter lengthens and reduces the curvature of the flexible blade 1, which opens contacts 2-4 and stops the motor 28, and , therefore, stopping the valve 29.
It will therefore not be able to open further as long as the increase in the temperature of the enclosure due to the additional heat supplied by the valve has not again influenced the thermal unit < B> 8 of the thermostat. It follows that thanks to the wire 9, the actuation of the control valve 29 is interrupted shortly after a variation in the temperature of the enclosure l 'caused, which makes it possible to adjust the temperature of the enclosure to the desired value avoiding an excessive correction which would hamper undesirable oscillations around this value. The opening, thus obtained in successive bursts, of the valve 29, produces an increase in the heat supplied to the enclosure to increase its temperature.
But as has been said above, the injection of this quantity of heat into the enclosure takes place with a certain delay. After the valve has increased its opening, by increasing by wire 9 the quantity of additional heat supplied to the thermostat, the latter could come into action for a temperature difference less than << / B> that which was necessary before the first operation of the valve, due to the increased curvature of the blade 1. This must be avoided, and therefore the additional heating of the thermostat, c 'that is, the heating of the wire 9, must be reduced by a servo mechanism as the temperature of the enclosure increases by following the increase in the quantity of heat injected by the valve.
This gradual adjustment of the additional heating will be referred to hereinafter as reset to zero .
In the drawing, the movements of the various organs during a correction of the thermostat for a drop in temperature, are indicated by an arrow.
The reset to is obtained by means of a contact 20, mounted at the end of the arm 12, and which closes an electrical circuit by ghosting on the contacts fixed 21 or 22, each time the arm 12 deviates from its central position, or normal position.
The closing of this circuit by contacts 21 or 22 causes the excitation of one of the windings of an auxiliary reversible motor 23 (fig. 3), which turns by entering the shaft 24 and the cam 25 (fig. 2), in such a direction, that the gradual movement transmitted through the rod 26, neck smoothing in the guides 32, brings the resistance 13 and the contacts 21 and 22 back to their initial positions, which are mounted on a common support 27,
integral with the rod 26. This results in the interruption of the circuit formed by the contact 20 and the stopping of the contact 19 on the average position of resistor 13 for which the electric current flowing through the wire 9 returns to its normal value. For this normal value of the current, the thermostat is then ready for the next adjustment around its zero position of normal temperature, without excessive deviations.
The springs 33 and 34, acting respectively on the arm 12 and on the support 27, ensure that the control mechanisms of these members follow the profiles of the cams 14 and 25.
From the foregoing, it emerges that the adjustment device described is provided with a thermostat 8, sensitive to the temperature which must be regulated, with a reversible motor , which actuates the heat inlet valve, an auxiliary device 9, sensitive to and associated with the thermostat, and adjustment means 12, 13 and 19, associated with the reversible motor to produce variations in the current, and consequently in the heat applied to the auxiliary part of the thermostat , these variations being proportional to the opening of the regulating valve. The device is also provided with an auxiliary motor 23, which is energized as soon as the arm 12, sliding on the resistance 13, moves away from its central position , and which brings it back to this central position.
