Abstract
701,009. Thermal switches. THOMPSON & CO. (SUNBURY), Ltd., R. E., and BENFORD, P. R. May 30, 1952 [May 30, 1951], No. 12726/51. Class 38(5) In a thermal switch responding to changes of room temperature and having increased sensitivity provided by an auxiliary heater which heats the temperature sensitive element of the switch to assist the element to open the switch contacts, the auxiliary heater is a resistance wire 20 in the shape of a hairpin and has a slidable contact plate 23 to. enable correct adjustment of the heating effect of the auxiliary heater to be obtained. The contact plate 23 bridges the legs of the wire and is clamped against the, wire 20 by a screw 24 which may be slid along a slot 25 in the base 3 of the switch. The heater 20 is connected in series with the switch contacts 9, 10. The contact 9 is carried by an insulating arm 8 attached to the free limb of a U-shaped bimetallic element 1, having its other limb secured to a hinge plate 2. A temperature adjusting screw 6 controlled by a wheel 7 abuts the hinge plate. An armature 15 attached to the bimetallic element co-operates with a magnet 16 to impart a snap-action to the switch, the magnet being adjustably mounted on the base so that the temperature differential of the switch may be adjusted.
