Abstract
687,294. Thermal switches. BRITISH THERMOSTAT CO., Ltd. June 12, 1951 [June 13, 1950], No. 14771/50. Class 38(v) In a switch, such as that of Specification 615,948, the wire 9 is wholly or partly surrounded by a heat and electrically insulating member 11 in order to vary the response of the wire to the current passing through it. As shown, the member 11 which may be of ceramic material is supported by a clip 12 and also encloses an auxiliary heater coil 10 connected in series with the wire 9, thus enabling a greater extension of the wire to be obtained and permitting the use of smaller currents. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not.shown), the auxiliary heater is on the outside of a glass member and in a further modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), nearly all of the wire is enclosed by two glass members, without an auxiliary heating coil, so that the heating and cooling times of the wire are increased.
