Abstract

459,962. Thermal switches. SATCHWELL, L., Farnham Road, Slough, Bucking- hamshire. Oct. 16, 1935, No. 28648. [Class 38 (v)] In a thermostat in which relative expansion of a tube 1 and rod 2, causes operation of a spring contact arm 6, the rod 2 which passes up centrally through the device, carries an adjusting knob 14 which bears centrally on a member 13 pivoted at its left-hand end on a support 12 thereby causing the right-hand end of the member 13 to press down on the right-hand end of the contact arm 6. The contact arm 6 is of the form shown in Fig. 3. It carries a contact 10 and an armature 9, which co-operate respectively with a fixed ,contact 5, and a magnet 4, and has stiffening flanges 8 and a tongue 7, by which it is secured to its support which consists of an extension of the tube 1 which passes upwards through the arm 6, a plate 11 serving as a stop, and the support 12. A nut 23 holds all these parts firmly in position. Expansion of the tube 1 causes a lowering of the rod 2 and knob 14 and pressure on the right hand end of the arm 6 so that eventually its left-hand end flicks upwards to break contact, the magnet serving to provide a " flick " action.
