Abstract
377,682. Pulverulent-fuel burners. DOCKING, A., Killiney, Purley Bury Avenue, Purley, Surrey, and McCLEARY, J., York Mansion, Petty France, Westminster. April 23, 1931, No. 12088. Addition to 352,516. [Class 75 (i).] The casing of a powdered fuel burner having an outlet A constituted, as in the parent Specification, by a plain and a corrugated sheet of metal wound together in form of a coil, is divided into chambers by a perforated plate or plates or wire gauze, expanded metal or similar diaphragms disposed transversely to the axis of the casing. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, the casing B is divided into two chambers by a wire gauze cone H. Powdered fuel and air or an aeriform medium are supplied to the casing through an inlet I, a regulable supply of additional air entering through an inlet I<2>. Air may also be added to the mixture through an inspection opening in the casing normally closed by a cover-plate J. In the construction shown in Fig. 4, the division plate M consists of plain and corrugated strips of metal coiled together similarly to the plate A. Air is admitted to a rear chamber L through a tangential inlet N and is broken up into separate streams by passage through the plate M before mixing in the front chamber L<1> with the powdered fuel and air mixture entering by the tangential inlet N. The corrugations in the metal strips of the division and outlet plates may be angularly disposed so as to impart a whirling or diverging movement to the medium passing through them.
