Abstract

346,826. Pulverulent-fuel burners. NIELSON, H., 73, Hayes Road, Bromley, Kent, and LAING, B., York Mansion, Petty France, Westminster. Jan. 16, 1930, No. 1616. [Class 75 (i).] A burner for pulverulent or powdered fuel having an annular outlet of varying cross section is provided with means connected to or forming part of a valve of streamlined cross section for varying the outlet opening according to the quantity of fuel or air supplied. In the construction shown, the fuel and primary air are supplied to the burner casing A through an inlet A<2> and the secondary air through an inlet A<3>, both supplies being regulable by a valve B of stream-lined cross section adjustable by means of a threaded spindle b. The mixture is discharged through an annular opening C of varying cross section formed between the front A<5> of the burner casing and a plug E attached to and movable with the valve B. The plug E is formed with inclined openings C<1> through which mixture is discharged to act as pilot-jets for igniting or re-igniting the main stream of fuel issuing from the opening C. The casing A is provided with inclined vanes A<4> for supporting the valve and whirling the mixture. A series of separate streamlined openings may be substituted for the single opening C.
