Abstract

368,504. Multiple fastenings. BROOKS & CO., Ltd., J. B. and HORDEN, H. R., Criterion Works, Great Charles Street, Birmingham. Feb. 23, 1931, No. 5572. [Class 44.] In a trunk fastening, a hook member 15 is pivoted at 16 on a disc 5 and its tail 20 is guided at 21 so that rotation of the disc causes the hook member to enter a staple 18 and then move bodily inwards to draw the parts of the trunk together. Two or more such fastenings are coupled together by a rack rod 2 meshing with teeth cut in the discs 5. One disc 5 is operated by an external handle fixed on the spindle 7. The outer portion 10 of the handle is hinged at 11 to the centre portion 9 so that a boss 12 on it can be pressed into a recess 14 in the trunk when the disc 5 has been fully moved. The boss 12 has spring latches 13 which can be withdrawn by means of a lock key. In the opening movement the heads of the hook members 15 press-against a ledge 23 and separate the parts of the trunk a little.
