Abstract
141,878. Steane, J. March 26, 1919. Latches, sliding.-Relates to fastening-devices for windows &c., of the kind comprising a spring- pressed slidable bolt member mounted on one window sash, a socket member on the other sash, and means for holding the bolt out of engagement with the socket when the window is to be opened. The member k carrying the bolt l and the member b, provided with the socket d are secured to the sashes p<1>, o<1> the member b being curved or otherwise shaped at f to guide the bolt into engagement with the socket during the closing of the window. The front face of the socket member is provided with a weighted lever g pivoted at h so as to swing in a plane at right-angles to the axis of the bolt l. When the window is to be opened, the bolt l is pulled back, whereupon the weighted end g<1> of the lever g drops, and its other ena rises and covers the socket d, thus keeping the bolt out of engagement with the socket when the bolt is released, and permitting free sliding movement of either window sash.
