Latches, sliding; striking-plates and staples for locks and latches.-In a sash-fastener of the type comprising a spring-pressed bolt withdrawn from a catch-member by a cam-lever shaped to retain the bolt in its retracted position, the lever is pivoted in a forked arm rigidly mounted on, and projecting at right-angles to, the bolt spindle. As applied to a casement window, Fig. 2, the lever m, pivoted in the forked arm i screwed to the bolt spindle, coacts with the bolt casing at n to withdraw the bolt, g from a catch o on the window frame. To prevent rattling, the surface g<4> of the bolt is slightly curved. For sliding sashes, Fig. 4, the bolt q engages a catch-member q on the other sash, the lever m being flattened at p to bear against the end n of the bolt casing to hold the bolt retracted.
