Abstract

162,765. Hoadley, T., and Hoadley, J. R. Feb. 2, 1920. Latches, sliding; striking- plates.-In a railway-carriage door lock of the type in which the main latch y is withdrawn by a pinion on the handle spindle 15 and held back until the door is shut, by a tumbler r controlled by a bolt h, the tumbler is controlled by a spring 1 engaging a recess z therein and lying in a housing 2 within the lock framing c. For the striking- plate there is employed a fitting, Fig. 14, consisting of a two-part casing 20, 21, which serves as a housing and guide for a spring latch-piece 31, which is arranged obliquely as shown. The main bolt is withdrawn from the inside of the carriage door by a sliding plate carrying upon one face a finger-piece for its operation, and, on the other, two projecting pins engaging the bolt, a guard fence being fitted to prevent accidental release.
