Latches, swinging; catches, spring; striking-plates and staples.-A bar d rotatable in bearings b, c in the casing, is formed with a catch e engaging an adjustable striking-plate I. The handle-spindle carries an inclined follower m which engages an oblique tappet f on the rod to turn it and release the catch. The locking-mechanism comprises a key-operated pivoted plate controlled by a spring tumbler s, and formed with a projection u to lie in the path of a lug g on the rod and prevent it from turning. A pivoted plate v can be turned into position to bring a part x into position between the lug g and the casing to form a check stop.
