Abstract
887,155. Latches; locks. PODLESAK, J. A. Sept. 3, 1959, No. 30170/59. Class 44. A flush-type door latch 1, e.g. for a vehicle comprises a pan-like body member 5 disposed in an opening 2 in a door 3, a spring-loaded latch bolt 13 slidingly mounted on the underside of the body member 5 and having a recess 27 therein, and a handle 21 pivoted at 24 to the body member 5 and provided with a rigid finger 26 which projects through an aperture 16 in the bottom of the body member 5 into the recess 27 in the bolt. The spring-loading of the bolt 13 is provided by a spring 18 which is disposed in a housing 19 secured to the member 5 and which engages a pin 17 projecting from the bolt through the aperture 16 into the housing. In its projected position with the door closed, the bolt 13 engages a keeper 14 on the door frame 4 and is is lockable by a key-operated cylinder lock 31provided with a dog 33 which is mounted so as to be rotated into and out of engagement with the bolt 13 by operation of the lock. The latch is formed substantially from stamped or drawn sheet metal parts.
