Class 44 A latch assembly for a door comprises a casing 1 and a spring-loaded latch 3 slidably mounted therein, and the latch, on being retracted by a knob 8 thereon, is deflected laterally to allow it to engage on abutment 7 integral with the casing. The latch is thus maintained in the restricted position until it is dislodged by closing the door, the dislodging being effected by a pin 16, integral with the latch, striking a keeper 13 on the door frame or another door.
