612,612. Gate latches. WELLDEN, F. C. Oct. 25, 1945, No. 28122. [Class 44] A latch for gates &c. comprises a bolt which is arranged for depression against the action of a spring 5 and a finger 3 carried on the bolt, which is engaged in the cut-out portion of a striking plate 11, the cut-out portion being shaped so that the finger is normally held in the recess 15 when the latch is closed, but is projected therefrom by the profile 16 when the bolt is depressed. The bolt consists of a rod screw threaded at one end to receive a hand-button 2 and is mounted in a bracket 4 attached to a base 6. The base provides a guide 10 for the finger 3 in a side plate 7 which is also formed with a guide slot 10a, whereby the unit is reversible for use on the other side of a door. The striking plate is formed with doubly profiled cut-out so that it can be likewise reversed.
