In a door fastening device a holding member C is mounted on the threaded end of a pin D which also carries lock-nuts f to limit movement of the member C away from the door jamb B. The pin D is rotated by means of a knob d<SP>1</SP> to turn the member C until its end c engages a stop e<SP>1</SP> to prevent further rotation of the member C, the end c<SP>1</SP> of the holding member then lying behind the door jamb B. Further rotation of the pin D causes the member C to move along the pin to draw the door A firmly against the surround B.
