Abstract

943,249. Door fastenings. K. G. MERCER. Sept. 26, 1962 [Oct. 14, 1961], No. 36953/61. Heading E2A. A door securing means comprises a housing a bolt 19 slidably arranged in the housing and a normally non removable rigid breakable member 24 separate from the bolt, arranged with its longitudinal axis parallel with the path of displacement of the bolt adapted to retain the bolt in a door fastening position. In the construction shown the bolt 19 is urged to its door releasing position by a spring 20 so that when the member 24, which is a glass tube, is broken, the door is automatically unfastened. To enable the tube to be replaced or removed when required a plate 17 is pivotally attached to the housing so that it can block the end of an aperture 16 through which the tube is inserted in the housing to hold the bolt in its fastening position. A padlock is used to secure the plate to the housing so that the bolt can only move to its unfastening position by removing the padlock or breaking the tube. A striker (not shown) for breaking the tube is attached to the housing by a cord.
