Abstract

994,815. Door locks. J. H. ROETHEL. Oct. 10, 1962 [Oct. 16, 1961], No. 38323/62. Heading E2A. In a door latch mechanism, the keeper 77, see Fig. 7, comprises a rack 79 having teeth 80, 81 engageable by the hooked end 25 of the latch element 22 in respectively the "safety latched" or "latched" positions, the rack 79 being provided with a spring-loaded wedge 87, which engages, in the closed position, the edge of the case plate 12. A control member 21 formed with arms 29, 39 is engageable respectively with a compression spring 32, and a hooked arm 41 of a spring-biased bell-crank lever 45, pivoted to the casing at 65. The other arm 47 of the bell-crank lever 45 is moved by stem 49 of a push-button operable from outside the door. The bell-crank 45 may be moved from either inside or outside the vehicle through lever 57. To lock the latch, the bell-crank 45 is moved to the right of Fig. 2, by means of a lever 69 which is pressed downwardly causing its arms 62 to abut projection 63 of the bell-crank 45, thus disengaging the hook 41 from the control member 21 and rendering the bell-crank 45 ineffective to operate the latch.
