Abstract
1,073,575. Miscellaneous releasable fastenings. FERRO MANUFACTURING CO. Nov. 13, 1964 [Jan. 14, 1964] No. 46331/64. Heading E2A. A door latch comprises a support 10, a detent 40 associated with a latch bolt unit 13, a detent operating lever 16, a locking lever 15 for the detent, the detent-operating lever 16 including an operating element 69 for disengaging the detent from the latch bolt unit, the locking lever 15 being pivotally mounted on the support in spaced parallel relation to the pivotal axis of the detent operating lever 16, and having a first unlocking control element 54 and a first locking control element 56 thereon, the detent operating lever 16 having a second unlocking control element 63 and a second locking control element 65, the first and second unlocking control elements being mutually engageable and the first and second locking control elements being mutually engageable and actuations of the first and second locking and unlocking control elements causing movements of the locking lever 15 respectively to prevent and permit disengagement of the detent 40. As shown, the latchbolt unit comprises a forked latch bolt 18 engageable with a keeper pin having a head 22, which in conjunction with a bolt housing 24, affords an "anti-burst" feature. The latch bolt 18 is retained in engagement with the pin by a spring-loaded toothed member 32 which is controlled by a pawl 43 of the detent 40, arranged for "outside" operation through an arm 45, such operation being dependent upon the position of the "inside" lever combination 15, 16. The lever 16 is connected through a pivot 66 with an "inside" handle (not shown), by which the lever 16 may be operated to block or free the lever 15 which is operable by a key operated cam 52.
