Abstract
682,259. Door latches. WEATHERSHIELDS, Ltd., and BISHOP, W. H. April 16, 1951 [Jan. 18, 1950], No. 1282/50. Class 44 The handle 10, Fig. 4, of a latch for a motor vehicle door is slidably guided in slots 12 in the door panel, an integral finger 14 extending inwardly to actuate the latch mechanism. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the mechanism comprises a pivoted latch bolt 16 loaded to the latching position by a spring 20 and lifted,for release by the lug 27 of a lever 25 adapted to be;rotated by the arm 24 of a bell-crank lever, the other;arm 22 of which is displaceable by the finger 14. A plate 28 on the spindle 26 is connected to an inside handle rotatable in one direction to free the latch and in the opposite direction to engage the hook 29 with the extension 30 of the bell crank lever which is thereby locked. The extension 30 may also be engaged by a locking arm 33 e.g. actuable by an outside key lock. The plate 28 may be arranged for rotation by a remote inside handle through a link. As shown in Fig. 3 the bell-crank lever may be locked by an arm 37 actuated by a rod 38 and knob 39 extending above the window rail on the inside of the door. The hand!e 10 may be arranged by direct connection to operate a sliding spring loaded latch bolt.
