A fastener device for a sliding window 31, for example, comprises a spring-loaded sliding bolt 18 which is connected to an operating lever 25 by means of a J-shaped rod 17 guided in holes 16, 23 in a flange 13 of a member 10 which is fixed to the window 31 and in which are disposed the bolt 18 and its spring 19; the lever 25 is formed with a handle 26 one end 30 of which bears against the flange 13 when the bolt is in its operative position in which it engages within a hole 32 in an adjacent window frame surround 33, so that the handle can be operated in one direction only. A plurality of holes 32 may be provided in the adjacent window frame surround 33 for selective engagement by the bolt 18. The rod 17 may be U-shaped.
