Abstract

932,346. Latch fastenings. FLOBY INDUSTRI A.B. May 11, 1961 [May 16, I960], No. 17298/61. Class 44. A vehicle includes a latching device for a door, comprising a keeper 5 mounted on the door frame and co-operating with a latch 9 attached to the door, the keeper being connected to the door frame by means of a yielding member e.g. a spring 11 and a catch member 17 being mounted on the side of the latch or the door facing the door frame and adapted to engage the keeper in the event of a change of the distance between the door frame and door in the closed position of the latter. The latch 9 includes a slidable latch bolt 7 mounted in a casing. As shown the catch member 17 is attached to the casing and it co-operates with a hook-shaped projection 16 on the keeper to hold the keeper in engagement with the bolt in the event of distortion of the door frame in a collision. To allow the keeper to move it comprises a head including the hookshaped projection 16 on a rod 10 which is slidably mounted in a sleeve 3 which is attachable to the door frame and the spring 11 is trapped between the end of the sleeve and the end of the rod opposite to the head; hence when the door frame is distorted the rod can move through the sleeve 3 against the pressure of the spring 11. The rod 10 can be of square or other non-circular shape or alternatively of circular shape in cross-section as shown in which case a guide plate 14 is provided which bears on the head to maintain the head in the correct position.
