1278821 Hasp fastenings WALSALL LOCKS & CART GEAR Ltd 20 Jan 1970 [21 Jan 1969] 3262/69 Heading E2A A fastening device comprises a hasp which includes a housing 4 having a hinged connection with a hasp attachment plate 1 and incorporating a bolt 18 movable between retracted and projecting positions, and in which a staple 7 includes a tongue 10 and an attachment plate 12, the housing affording an opening 8 through which said tongue can extend for co-operation with the bolt in its projecting position, the arrangement being such that, when said tongue is received in said opening, the bolt can be, shot from its retracted to its projecting position to secure the housing to the staple, the housing being so dimensioned and shaped that when, in use, it is secured to the staple, said attachment plates and the hinged connection lie entirely within the area bonded by the housing. In the construction shown the bolt 18 is key operated through a key hole 5 in the housing provided with a pivoted guard 6. The staple has an opening 11 through which the bolt 18 passes. The attachment plate 12 of the staple as shown is secured to the front face of a door but in an alternative arrangement the plate is substantially aligned with the tongue 10 and is secured to an edge of the door. In a modified construction Fig. 4 instead of the housing being allowed to hinge outwardly to at least 90‹ from the plate 1 its outward movement is restricted to about 30‹ so that it can be used as a pull to open a sliding door. For this purpose the plate 1 is provided with a hook shaped member 15 which extends through a slot 16 in a rear cover plate 9 of the housing and when the bolt is in the withdrawn position it is engaged with a nose 17 of the member 15 so that the member 15 cannot be withdrawn from the opening 8.
