Abstract

1,236,574. Handle-assemblies. E. HOLDEN & CO. (B'HAM) Ltd. 1 Aug., 1968 [4 Aug., 1967], No. 35955/67. Heading E2A. A knob or lever door handle assembly comprises a fixing plate 13 upon which the handle (not shown) is pivotally mounted and whereby the assembly can be secured to a door, the fixing plate being provided with openings 17, 19, for accommodation of any one of a plurality of alternative types of lock or other fastening mechanisms carried by an adjacent portion of the door, the fixing plate having means for attachment of any one of a plurality of alternative cover plates adapted to suit the selected lock or other fastening mechanism. As shown the opening 17 is for the handle provides access to a keyhole of a said lock which has tumblers in the lock casing or allows a barrel lock mechanism to protrude through the fixing plate; the cover plate has an opening 21 to receive the shank of the knob or lever handle and if required either a key hole or an opening for receiving a barrel lock mechanism. The fixing plate is provided with four holes at its respective corners for receiving wood screws by which it is secured to the door but it is also provided with two holes 15 for bolts which can be passed through the door and a similar fixing plate and the opposite side of the door where they are engaged by nuts. The attachment means are surfaces of the two plates which frictionally engage.
