Abstract

783,438. Locks. GILSON, T. L. Nov. 1, 1955 [Nov. 10, 1954], No. 32586/54. Class 44 Relates to safety devices for use with locks or latches of the kind having at least on one side of the door a handle by which the door may be unlatched and opened. According to the invention the device comprises attachment means adapted to be screwed to the door adjacent opposite sides of the lock, a cover hingedly secured to the attachment means at one side of the lock and for fitting over the lock handle and the securing screws to prevent access thereto and means comprising a bridge piece fixed to the attachment means and arranged to bridge the lock body, in combination with a key or combination-operated lock secured to the cover and engageable with the bridge piece for releasably holding the cover in position over the, handle. As shown, a boxlike cover is hinged to a frame 10 secured by screws 11 to a door 12 around the casing 13 of a latch, and a bridge piece 18 upstanding from the frame is engaged by a bolt 20 for key lock 19 on the underside of the cover when the latter is engaged over the latch. The frame and cover extend from the door over a keeper 22. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown) the frame and cover do not extend beyond the door.
