Class 44 In a lock for a sliding closure 10, such as a door, &c., a pivoted hook bolt 14 is provided having two alternative locking positions in a striking box 25 which has closed side walls 27 projecting from a flange 26 adapted to be mounted on a sill 12. The hook bolt 14 is urged into the locking position by a spring 34, and is moved to the opening position by means of a crank-pin 23 attached to a barrel lock 22 operated by a key 21. The two alternative locking positions may be provided by two hooks 31, 32 on the bolt 14 for engagement with a shoulder 30 on the striking box 25, or alternatively, a second shoulder may be provided on the striking box for engagement by a single hook on the bolt. A casing 16 for the lock is mounted in the closure 10 with its fore-end 18 spaced back from the leading edge of the closure in a recess 24, or in a rebate at the rear of the closure, and the side walls 27 of the striking box 25 prevent access to the hook bolt by any tool which may be used in an attempt to force the lock. Lateral wings 19 are provided on the hook bolt 14 to close the gaps left between the hook bolt and the ends of an opening 17 in the fore-end 18 to prevent probing the lock interior.
