[Class 44] A bolt fastening or lock has an arcuate bolt 6 moving in a curved guide channel 5 and entering, when shot, a correspondingly curved socket 12 in the keeper, the bolt having rack teeth 7 engaged by an operating pinion 8. As shown, the pinion is rotatable by handles 11 on a spindle 10, the bolt is of rectangular section, and the guide 5 and socket 12 are mounted in rectangular casings 1, 2 mortised into the door edge and door-post respectively. Movement of the bolt may be limited by a stoppin 14 engaged in a slot 13 formed in the bolt, and the slot may have a lateral extension 13a into which the pin 14 may be moved to lock the bolt in shot position. Two such rack bolts, concentrically arranged, may be provided and operable by a single pinion engaging the racks on both bolts, or operable by separate pinions. In the latter case one bolt may be operable by handle-spindle, and the other operable by a removable key engageable in a keyway in the pinion, or by a revolving barrel lock. The bolt may be spring-loaded so that its end, suitably beveled, may normally project from the casing and act as a latch, the bolt being shot further when required to lock the door.
