Abstract
1,225,914. Locks. HEINRICH SUDHAUS SOHNE. 10 July, 1969 [13 July, 1968], No. 34751/69. Heading E2A. A recessed suitcase lock consists of a housing 6 having an aperture 9 into which the lid keeper 7 enters where it is held by a lockable bolt 11, a chamber 13 adjacent the lock into which a latch bolt extends from the lock, this latch bolt being engagable by a pivoted, spring- loaded cover 14 to force it into the releasing position to open the case. In the form shown in Figs. 2 and 3, a case 1 has a beading 4 cut out to accommodate the lock housing and the lid 2 carries the keeper 7. A fastening 10, pivoted at 17 carries the bolt 11 which enters a slot (12) in the keeper to fasten it. The fastening 10 carries latch bolt 15, 18 which extends into the chamber 13, the bolt 18 latching with aperture 19 of rib 20, thus holding the fastening 10 so that its bolt 11 secures the keeper 7. The cover plate 14 is pivoted at 21 and carries a spring 22 whose end 16 engages the bolt 15 to push it into the releasing position when the cover 14 is depressed. The fastening 10 is urged upwardly by spring 23. In a modification, (Fig. 4, not shown) the keeper is placed behind the lock and the bolt 11 is made longer to reach it. In the form shown in Fig. 5 the fastening element 10 slides instead of hinging and a nose 26 on the keeper engages with a nose 25 on the element 10. The cover plate 14 displaces a latch bolt (15) carried by element 10 against spring 29 much as before. The element 10 latches by pin 27 in slot 28 to remain in the releasing position, but it is dislodge from this position by ramp surfaces 30, 31.
