[Class 44] A. fastening particularly for trunks or the like comprises a bolt 9, Fig. 6, mounted in a casing 1 having an aperture through which the latching end 11 of the bolt may project, the bolt being pressed by a spring 10. In the position shown the bolt may be retracted by means of finger pieces 18 on lugs 16 projecting through slots in the casing. To lock the bolt a key 23 is inserted over stump 22 and engages a notch 25 in a locking spring 19, counter-clockwise rotation of the key drawing the spring downwards until a, re-entrant 20 engages below an abutment 13 which is bent up from the casing and extends through a longitudinal slot 14 in the bolt, the bolt being then locked by engagement of the closed ends 21 of the spring 19 with the latch 11. Rotation of the key clockwise from the locked position opens the arms of the spring to remove the re-entrant from engagement with the abutment 13. As shown in Fig. 2 the casing is provided with a cover 2 secured by means of lateral extensions bent round the casing. The cover is provided with a spring hinge 8 provided with lugs 5, 6 intended to pass through slits in the wall 7 of the trunk, the lugs being then bent to secure the hinge. On release of the latch the casing is swung on the hinge clear of the free end of the wall 7. The latch-plate 31 is provided with lugs 32, 33 which may be bent over to secure it to the wall 29 of the trunk engaging with the wall 7. The latch plate is enclosed within a trough-like extension of the cover 2 when in the operative position.
