[Class 44] In a door fastening of the kind in which a bolt normally acts as a spring-shot latch bolt withdrawn by handle, but can be shot further into the keeper by means of a key, to act as a lock bolt, a key-operated locking tumbler 3 is in the form of a lever pivoted on the bolt 2 at 9, the rear end 13 being in the form of a hook normally engaging a pin 12 on the follower 4 under action of a spring 10. The latch bolt can thus be retracted by handles 5, 6 against the action of spring 19 mounted on the bolt and bearing against a fixed stop 18 on the casing 1. A spring 14 normally holds the follower against a fixed stop 15. The other end of the tumbler carries a pin 17. When the key 8 is inserted and rotated clockwise the bit engages notch 16, raises the lever so as to disengage hook 13 from pin 12 and then shoots the bolt, carrying the hook 13 clear of pin 12, so that the handles are inoperative. Pin 17 is carried over to the right of stop 18 and co-operates therewith to retain the bolt shot when the key is withdrawn. In the locked position, spring 19 rests against a projection 20 on the bolt. To economize space the bolt is slotted vertically to provide jaws between which the tumbler and spring 19 are housed, the jaws having apertures 7 to give clearance for the key operation. The case 1 is of height sufficient just to accommodate the bolt.
