Relates to a lock of the kind having a hasp member attachable to one part of a box or the like and incorporating a locking slide member 38 and a catch member attachable to the other box part and incorporating a locking staple for co-operation with the locking slide member. According to the invention, the locking slide member is urged towards a catch memberengaging position by a spring 26 which is also arranged for key-operated bodily sliding movement within the casing between a release position in which the slide member can be withdrawn against the spring action, and a locked position in which withdrawal is blocked by the spring. In the arrangement shown, a carrier 12 for a lock mechanism is secured to a cover-plate 10, by tabs, the cover-plate 10 being pivotally connected to a tongue 16 which is secured in a pocket 18 fixed by rivets 20 to a lid 22 of the box or the like. The locking slide member 38 and the spring 26 are movable transversely of the carrier 12 by a key to the dotted line position shown in Fig. 1 whereby to lock the member 38 in the shot position against withdrawal by a presser member 50. When the spring 26 is on the full-line position shown, a lug 44 on the member 38 passes beyond the closed end of the spring. The catch member consists of a plate 76 having two slots to accommodate limbs 52 of a staple member 48, the limbs 52 having pressedout tabs 80 terminating in prongs 78 by which the staple member is secured to a box part 54.
