Abstract

1,261,702. Latches. WILMOT-BREEDEN Ltd. 18 April, 1969 [23 April, 1968], No. 19008/68. Heading E2A. A vehicle bonnet latch comprises a headed keeper 4 which is guided by tube 23 to be successively engaged by safety latch 14, 10, 15 and by main latch 9, 16, 17, it being necessary to release these independently to free the bonnet. Both latch bolts are pivoted on a common pivot 12. The safety latch is withdrawn by a finger at 15. The main latch bolt is U-shaped, the lower arm 16 providing the latching surface entering hole 29 in the tube, and it may be released from inside the vehicle by a cable connected to the light 18. For safety, two springs 20, each being common to both latch-bolts 9 and 10, are provided. Because of the overlap between the parts 14 of the latch-bolt 10 and the arm 17 of the main latch-bolt, this cannot be moved to the releasing position unless the bolt 10 is in the engaging position. This provides a safety interlock.
