Abstract

1287168 Preventing unauthorized operation R B POND 29 June 1970 [30 June 1969] 31363/70 Heading B7J [Also in Division E2] A bonnet catch for a motor vehicle comprises a bolt 16, Fig. 3, having at one end thereof a head which has a shoulder 30 and a conical tip 32, and having at the other end thereof a screwthreaded portion 28 which is connected to a bracket 24, the latter being fixed by means of screws 26 to a bonnet 12, and comprises a housing 14, having an opening 36 to receive a portion of the bolt 16 therein, a plunger 48 engageable with the shoulder 30 of the bolt 16, a spring 54 which urges the plunger 48, having an extension 50, towards the bolt 16, and having a solenoid 58 therein which retracts the plunger 48 against the action of the spring 54. In use, the lowering of the bonnet 12, Fig. 1, causes the bolt 16 to enter the opening 36 of the housing 14, the conical tip 32 of the bolt forces the plunger 48 against the spring 54 and the latter returns the plunger 48 when the shoulder 30 of the bolt is in the position shown in Fig. 3. To release the bolt 16, the plunger 48 is moved against the action of the spring 54 by means of the solenoid 58, the latter being connected to a push-button switch 18, Fig. 2, which can be actuated when an ignition switch 22 is in the "on" position. The bonnet can then be raised to the position shown in Fig. 1.
