[Class 44.] A lock for doors &c. comprises a cylindrical casing 21 adapted to be fitted in an aperture drilled in the edge of the door and to be secured by a face-plate 20. The bolt is preferably cylindrical and with annular grooves providing teeth 8 engaged by a pinion 6 by which the bolt may be withdrawn against the action of a compression spring 31 normally serving to shoot the bolt. The pinion receives a square handle-spindle at 7 and has bosses journalled in flanged bushes, (not shown) applied to the faces of the door when the pinion has been inserted in an aperture drilled through the door in such position that the teeth engage the bolt through a cut-away portion of the casing. The bolt nose is hemispherical to operate as a latch by contact with a curved striking-plate, (not shown). The tail of the bolt is reduced to provide a stem 32 slidable through an aperture in a slidable block 12, and an aperture 14 in a transversely mounted rotatable cylinder 13. When the bolt is shot, stem 32 is clear of aperture 14 and member 13 may be rotated by a key having pins which engage apertures (not shown) in said member, so that aperture 14 is moved out of alignment with stem 32 and the bolt is locked in shot position. The keyoperated end of member 13 is preferably covered by an arrangement comprising a bossed plate 26 having rotatably mounted thereon a thimble 27 with a slot 28 shaped to suit the configuration of the appropriate key. Block 12 has a projection adapted to engage under the action of spring 31 in one or other of a series of peripheral notches provided in member 13 to hold it against accidental movement.
