Abstract
628,204. Locks; latches. KORESKA, R. J. Sept. 8, 1947, No. 24678. Convention date, Sept. 7, 1946. [Class 44] In a door lock of the type in which a bolt 1 adapted to be retracted by means of a handle which can cooperate with the bolt through the medium of a coupling member 15, mounted on a keyoperated displaceable member 6 such that the coupling member 15 in one position of the key-operated member 6 is in an operative position and in another position of the key-operated member is in an inoperative position, the key-operated member is provided with a barring member 19, which when the key-operated member is moved to make the coupling member inoperative is adapted to engage the bolt 1 to lock it in its projected position. The bolt 1 projected by a spring 5 is normally retracted by a handle connected to the spindle 17. When the spindle 17 is rotated clockwise the follower 16 engages one arm of a lever 15, the other arm of which abuts a projection 22 on the bolt to withdraw it. The lever 15 is mounted on a slide 6 which is guided by pins 4, 9, entering slots 8, 7, respectively. By inserting a key in keyhole 14 and rotating anticlockwise so that the keybit engages the recess 13, the slide 6 may be lowered. This disengages the lever 15 from the follower 16, rendering the handle idle and the pivot pin 19 of lever 15 enters a slot 20 in the bolt to block the latter in the projected position, the bolt being formed with two slots 20 to render it reversible for right- and left-hand doors. A ball 12 mounted on a spring 12a engages one of the notches 10, 11 in the slide 6 to retain the latter in one of its limiting positions. A modification is described in which the barring member is a separate projection on the slide, which enters a recess in the bolt so that the lever 15 may be mounted anywhere on the slide. In further modifications tumblers may be provided for co-operating with the key and slide 6 or a cylinder lock may be employed. The lever may also be made single-armed.
