Abstract

995,017. Door chains; locks; latches. PRECISION LOCK MANUFACTURING CO. Inc. Aug. 31, 1962 [Sept. 25, 1961], No. 33496/62. Heading E2A. A chain door lock 10 comprises a slide plate 12 having a slot 24 therein, a co-engaging sliding member 28 movable into and out of the slot to connect the slide member with and disconnect it from the slide-plate, a chain 32 connected at one end with the sliding member 28 and at the other end with a latch-bolt 34, a lock mechanism comprising a housing 48 having a first hole 50 adapted to receive the latch-bolt, a second hole 54 transverse to the first hole 50 containing a movable keeper 56 which is urged into engagement with the latchbolt 34 when it is in the first hole 50 by means of a spring 58, means for moving the keeper out of engagement with the latch-bolt, and a spring 52 to eject the latch-bolt 34 from the first hole 50 when the keeper 56 is moved out of engagement therewith. As shown, the keeper is controlled by a key operated tumbler lock 66 rotatable in a hole 68 and carrying a finger 76 which is engageable with the keeper 56. The arrangement allows the door to be opened from the outside when it is in the partially open position permitted by the chain 32.
