[Class 44.] In a lock comprising a latch bolt and a lock bolt, the latch bolt may be withdrawn by a key or by a latch-follower, while the lock bolt may be withdrawn only by the key, but may be shot by the key or by the latch-follower. To withdraw the lock bolt 2, the key 15 is turned clockwise to set spring-pressed sliders 1 so that slots 11 are aligned to receive an arm 14 of a pivoted tumbler 12. The bolt 2 is then withdrawn by a spring 4 and the tumbler 12 raised by an inclined surface 16 and the arm 14 engages the slots 11. The spring-pressed latch bolt 7 may then be withdrawn by turning the key further to engage an arm 27 on a pivoted member 24 or by turning a spindle 22 by a handle so that the latch-follower 28 engages an arm 26. In a night-latch, a handle is provided on only one side of the door. The bolt 2 may be shot by the key 15 engaging the rear surface 19 or by the follower 28 engaging a shoulder 29. The tumbler 12 may be lightly spring-pressed or may be gravity actuated. A spring-pressed stop on the rose plate has to be depressed before the handle can be turned to shoot the bolt 2.
